以色列總理尼坦雅胡（Benjamin Netanyahu）發表聲明，感謝美國國務卿凱瑞（John Kerry）為重啟以巴和談所作的努力。他認為，恢復和談符合以色列的國家利益。此外，以色列將釋放部份巴勒斯坦的囚犯。
綜合媒體報導，以巴和談已初步達成協議，下周將在華盛頓開始中東和談的首期會談，以決定協議的細節。但是，凱瑞拒絕公開細節，她表示，「如果想讓談判有成功的機會，最好的方式就是私下談。」
尼坦雅胡表示，目前，以色列面對伊朗及敘利亞等重大挑戰，此時，與巴勒斯坦人化解衝突顯得尤為重要。從以色列角度而言，「這項和談的主要目標是避免這個地區成為一個同時有猶太人和巴勒斯坦人的雙民族國家，同時也要避免巴勒斯坦成為伊朗支持的恐怖主義國家。」
以色列負責國際關係的部長施泰尼茨指出，釋放的囚犯中包含「被監禁幾十年的重量級人物」，釋放囚犯將分批進行，這是作為凱瑞重啟中東和談協議的一部分。此外，他表示，巴勒斯坦為此已進行了至少9個月的「嚴肅談判」。
以色列和巴勒斯坦前一次直接和談是2010年，但由於以色列拒絕延長猶太人屯墾區限建令而停滯。
